This past year, alliantNational has taken several steps to expand our focus in the tax-exempt sector for organizations and practitioners:
Ron Schultz Joins alliantNational
First off, Ron Schultz, a former high-level advisor at the IRS, joined us this past fall. Ron has worked with us at different points in our prior lives. He worked on the Staff of the Joint Committee on Taxation while Dean was on Senate Finance, assisting Dean and others in the development of various tax legislative proposals, including exemption requirements for health care and other types of organizations, charitable contributions, public charity and private foundation excise taxes, prohibited tax shelter transactions, Form 990 and 990-T reporting, and credit counseling organizations. He also worked with Dean and others on several high-profile Senate Finance Committee investigations, including the Enron and Nature Conservancy reports.
Later, Ron worked with Steve at the IRS, while Steve headed the Tax Exempt and Government Entities Division (TEGE), as his executive level Senior Technical Advisor. Ron moved with Steve as he headed the Large Business Division and ultimately served as Deputy Commissioner. In these various advisory roles to Steve, Ron led the process for the wholesale redesign of the Form 990, helped complete important tax-exempt compliance initiatives including the nonprofit hospital report and the colleges and universities study, worked on the IRS resolution of the Swiss/UBS foreign bank accounts dispute and the related offshore voluntary disclosure programs, and managed the development of the schedule UTP regarding reporting uncertain tax positions. You can see why we are so excited to have him on board.
alliantNational Partners with ENVRS
We also wanted to mention that alliantNational recently entered into a new advisory relationship with a wonderful group of valuation experts, Engineering Valuation Risk Solutions (ENVRS). ENVRS is comprised of former managers of the IRS engineering function (valuation, appraisers, etc.) that have worked with Steve and others at the IRS for decades. The group includes Howard Lewis, Dorothy Taylor and Ron Cerruti.
